What We Do
We make the college application process easy and guide every student towards acceptance.
Do you need help navigating the world of college admissions? Many students do not know the expectations that colleges (especially competitive colleges) have to be admitted. An independent educational consultant will make this process easier and guide your student.
At Gateway Educational Consulting, my objective is to help students make individualized college plans that meet their career and financial goals. Each student has unique qualities. I will work to establish a student-centered admissions process that will highlight the student’s singular personality and goals. I also can help take away the worry and stress that parents feel in helping their students through this process.
Your college admissions journey begins with you in mind. What are your strengths, goals, ambitions, and career aspirations? The free initial consultation will consist of a discussion of these and your college choices. From there, we will make a plan that fits yours and your families' needs.
Together, we will strategize the best application course of action (early action, early decision, regular admissions, rolling admissions), discuss how to approach application questions, and brainstorm essay topics, proof-read, and advise on adequacy of essays.
College Companion Tool:
We start by using aptitude, interest, and personality assessments to help the student begin exploring career options and potential majors. The student will create a plan to actively explore careers through informational interviews, job shadowing, and hands-on experiments. We will continue to explore opportunities to add depth or uniqueness to your activities and plan for impactful summer experiences.
Then we will lead the student to create an activity resume’ to showcase the student’s accomplishments. We will also strategically plan high school courses to align with the student’s interests and strengths.
College admissions can often feel overwhelming and unpredictable. We’ll help you navigate the process, providing the structure and guidance you need to stay on track with all the necessary tasks.
We also offer advice on SAT/ACT requirements, create a test prep plan, set a testing schedule, and determine the best time to apply.
Our aim is to help the student navigate the wide range of college options and identify key criteria that matter most. We will work with the student to create a well-rounded college list that aligns with the student’s academic, social, and financial needs and provide tips and resources for researching colleges, planning campus visits, and making the most of college fairs.
College Companion Tool: helps the student explore their personality type, career goals, major selection, and do college research.
Yearly Advising:
At the start, we schedule individual meetings with both you and your child to fully understand each of your goals and expectations for their educational future. We then administer a set of inventories to assess the student’s interests and personality traits. Each year of high school, we will discuss the school transcript, high school course selection, and AP testing, develop activities and leadership list, research colleges, develop a testing plan, and make a preliminary college list. Finally, we hold a follow-up meeting to discuss our recommendations and provide detailed descriptions of the colleges that match their profile.
College Application Development & Review:
One-on-one brainstorming on essay topics and essay development to reveal the student’s true nature to the college. Colleges want to know more about what makes you unique and your story. The personal statement and essay help to tell this story
Proofread the draft essay to give feedback to make your story better and provide ongoing essay critique, editing, and proofreading
Help the student capture the admissions officer’s attention by developing the essay to give a glimpse of the student’s life, like a trailer to a movie or an introduction to a book
Comprehensive Application Review:
Review your ACT/SAT scores, transcript, volunteer experiences, extra-curricular activities, and jobs or internships you have held
Help the student understand what is important to put on the application and how to avoid redundancy
Review the student’s activities and help them decide what to highlight on the application
Generate ideas to include important details for the greatest impact
“She helped me navigate applying to college and securing financial aid to be able to attend the University of Georgia. I couldn’t have gotten my bachelors degree without her insight into navigating the complex admission and financial aid process. Today, I am attending school
for a graduate degree in pharmacy.”
